  • Ready for Adulthood, Baths Job Shop 2024

    Year 11 visited the local Jobs Expo at the Baths Hall.  Many of the big employers were there.  We found out that the social work team run apprenticeship degrees, that the NHS is the Uk’s biggest employer and how to join the different sections of the armed forces. We spent an hour speaking to different employers, what they looked for in young people, how they trained them and what they were likely to be paid.  The learners left with leaflets, information, water bottles and sweets which they thought was a good result.

  • Respectful Me? All the Way?

    We have just had a visit from the Prison Me? No Way! Team.  The team brought a group of Category D prisoners who are determined that others do not make the poor choices they made.  The focus of the day was gangs and County Lines.  The story of the young reformed prisoners explained how the people who recruited them for gangs were very friendly until they tried to refuse to leave the gang.  There were some interesting and thoughtful questions from the learners so that they are able to face the world and be able to negotiate difficult relationships.

  • Inspiring Excellence in Science Live

    A visit to The City Hall in Sheffield to explore the world of Science.  Key Stage 3 and 4 had the opportunity to listen to some of the most famous scientists in the country with a final session by Professor Raymond Winston.  Subjects included Genetics, IVF and the human body and this has been used to support learning back at Coritani in the Science lessons with Steve and Adam.

  • Are you Ready to Play with Light?

    Our Coritani leaders visited the Explorer Dome to delve into the curious world of light. We split white light into the rainbow spectrum of colours and experimented with light refracting glasses. The learners played with shadows and created creatures with their hands. Our illuminating experts explained how light reaches our planet from the sun and how eclipses work. The learners enjoyed this immersive experience and recalled facts from their science lessons to ask and answer questions.

  • Ready for Exams

    Year 11 learners spent the day in York, taking photographs and inspiring creativity for their GCSE Art and Photography externally set exams. Learners wandered down the historic Shambles that feature medieval buildings, some dating back to the 14th century. We had lots of time to photograph York Minster, the market place and local old ruins, taking in the atmosphere to help inspire their art. We had a lovely time at the Cat Café and learners were able to pet and take photographs of the many feline residents.

  • Ready for Photography at The Deep

    Students took some amazing photographs of different Sea Life, including sharks, octopus, jellyfish and sea anemone. After lunch upstairs students were given the opportunity to look the the specialist collection of exoskeletons held by The Deep of rare and protected under conservation laws.

    Students were able to photograph and even hold these items which included turtle shells, dead coral and exoskeletons.

  • Inspiring Excellence at the Racecourse

    Recently Key Stage 3 and 4 learners visited Doncaster Racecourse to take part in the Maths Racing to School Day. We took part in various real-life mathematical activities such as Parade Ring Possibilities and the Weighing Room. We even got to go on the racecourse and see the horses before we watched them race. A brilliant careers trip that opened a new world to many of our students. Well done team Coritani.

  • Inspiring Excellence at the Plowright Theatre

    On Friday 1st March, Humber class attended the performance of 'Charlie Cook's Favourite Book' at the Plowright Theatre. Learners were entertained by energetic songs, dancing characters and amazing puppets. Learners smiled from ear to ear at the arrival of each new character, and  enjoyed venturing out of school with the adults and they all gave the performance a score of 100 out of 10. Our quote of the day came from one learner was; 'I thought that the theatre was bad but now I know that I love it.'

  • Are you READY to explore Yorkshire Sculpture Park?

    Humber class attended a poetry workshop with an artist, Rose, before exploring the park. Learners respectfully explored some of the sculptures and were encouraged to think of words and phrases to describe each one. They collated their words and created a fabulous piece of collective poetry about the sculptures.  The highlight of the day was when we managed to squeeze all of the learners and their staff inside one of the sculptures before safely exploring hidden pathways through the trees.

  • Inspiring Excellence at Christmas

    Recently Key stage 3 and 4 learners visited Nottingham to watch A Christmas Carol, this Dickens’ classic is an important part of the English Literature GCSE programme.  We started with a visit to the Caves to learn about the history of Nottingham and its early settlements.  We were lucky to have front row seats to watch Keith Allen’s irreverent take on Scrouge but it was at heart a story about the ghosts.  We left ready for Christmas and ready for studying English Literature.

  • Keeping learners Safe through Art

    Year 10 learners had the opportunity to visit the 20-21 visual arts centre to visit the ‘Swords into Ploughshares: Knives into Jewels’ exhibition and experience being makers of sculptural art. The artworks exhibited aims to examine the nationwide problem of knife crime and invited jewellery and metal artists to respond to the issue, by repurposing knives obtained mainly through the West Midlands Police knife surrender scheme. Our learners engaged in a workshop and were able to assemble their pieces by riveting, snipping, sawing, filing and soldering together metal pieces to create their own unique art, inspired by the various artists’ work they had seen in the gallery.
