Coritani Academy provides a relevant and engaging careers curriculum which inspires excellence and meets the differing needs of our learners so they are ready for the next steps in their lives. This is developed throughout a learner’s time at the academy and is always supportive of their abilities, strengths and skills.

Our careers programme, part of the Coritani Personal Development Curriculum, has been developed around the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s “Good Career Guidance” report which identifies eight Gatsby Benchmarks, defining a world-class standard of excellent careers guidance.

We believe that strong careers advice and support ensures learners are; READY - as it broadens horizons; RESPECTFUL-  by challenging stereotypes; INSPIRES EXCELLENCE - by raising aspirations and exposing learners to professional role models; SAFE - by removing unknowns from their future whether it is post 16 education, an apprenticeship or an employment route relevant in the current labour market.

Aims

The main aims of careers provision at Coritani Academy are to

  • Prepare students ready for the transition to life after Coritani Academy
  • Prepare students ready to make informed decisions which are appropriate for them
  • Provide students with well-rounded experience that enables them to be respectful and safe after Coritani
  • Develop personal characteristics such as social skills, communication, independence and resilience so students are respectful of themselves and others
  • Inspire and motivate students to personal excellence, developing themselves as individuals so they have safe, independent futures.

Labour Market Information

Finding reliable information about the local and national labour market is vital to inform good-quality information about jobs and career paths. Access to up-to-date career and labour market information (LMI) is also important to inspire excellence and ensure learners are ready for the future. If learners know what they can earn from different jobs and where and how numerous the vacancies are, they will be in a better position to make informed choices about future study and training.  During the year this information will be shared with learners by our careers co-ordinator, Steve and by visiting IAG counsellors.

Coritani Academy ensures that all learners have encounters with employers and employees each year to enable a better understanding of the workplace and the potential career paths open to them.
