  • Ready for the Christmas Future

    Published 12/12/22

Learning takes many forms and sometimes it is those things we take for granted that create the best response.  Travelling to Hull on the 350 Fastcat was an adventure, finding the correct platform, negotiating a packed bus in Hull and ensuring we were back in time to return to Scunthorpe all developed skills that will make them ready for college or work.

In between they had a wonderful performance of A Christmas Carol at the Hull Truck Theatre.  Key Stage 4 study this for English Literature and we always hope we can visit the play in year 11.  This was a wonderful performance, dark and menacing with light humorous moments.  Scrooge’s tail of redemption was clear and how this will inspire excellence in English Literature over the coming months.

  • Inspiring Excellence in the Capital

    Published 12/12/22

October sees our traditional Year 11 trip to London to Inspire Excellence.  In order to increase cultural capital, this year’s group travelled to London by train and walked along the canals to Camden Lock and Camden town where they had the chance to sample the delights of Hans and Gretel before heading to central London via the tube.  The afternoon was spent watching Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare’s play was moved to 1945 Italy to entertain and engage.  The visit itself was to develop year 11s understanding of Shakespeare’s world and understand how they were presented during the Elizabethan era.

  • Safe Choices, Respectful Citizens

    Published 12/12/22

During Coritani’s Anti-bullying week we were fortunate to have a visit from the Prison, Me? No way! Team.  It was a hugely rewarding and interesting day and our learners had to think about some complicated and emotional issues.  The team commented on the commitment and enthusiasm of all Coritani learners and the challenging questions they asked in a respectful manner.  During the day they had sessions about Online Safety, County Lines, Prison Life and choices where ex-offenders explained the poor choices and consequences of them.  This was real life learning to ensure that all Coritani learners are safe and ready for life in 21st century Britain.

  • Anti-Bullying Week 2022

    Published 05/12/22

Being respectful is one of the Coritani mindsets and therefore we supported Anti-Bullying Week 2022, that was coordinated in England and Wales by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. It took place from 14th to 18th November and had the theme Reach Out. The week was started with Odd Socks Day on Monday 14th November, where staff and learners wore odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique. Learners coloured little odd socks to hang on the washing line and received their own pair of odd socks from the academy. Even our therapy dog Kelvey took part in the odd sock event.

  • Safe from Sexual Harm at Coritani

    Published 05/12/22

As part of KS3 and KS4 PSHE, we regularly carry out an anonymous ‘Sexual Harm in Schools’ Survey to ensure that our learners are safe within the academy. This initiative comes from a government report that highlighted that in the UK increasing numbers of learners have experienced sexual harm in schools. In addition to the survey, we also revisited the important topic of consent and what that entails. Learners watched the informational video ‘Tea Consent’ endorsed by Thames Valley Police. Staff and learners in the academy coloured their own teacup and placed it in the corridors as a visual reminder to embed the importance of being aware and safe.

  • Respecting the planet

    Published 02/12/22

What on Earth is going on in juniors? We are getting all geographical by exploring our Earth. First stop was an exhibition around the 7 continents and across the 5 oceans. The learners have created their own balloon globes and if you listen closely, you will still hear them singing the names of the continents from largest to smallest. Next, we took a deep dive into the water cycle, creating our own rain in a jug and water cycles in a bag. We are closely monitoring the progress of the condensation and precipitation. Our last stop of the week was a journey down the river from source to mouth, exploring its features and creating our own rivers using play-doh. Our learners have shown excellent curiosity during our learning journey this week.

One learners top fact: The Mariana Trench is the deepest oceanic trench in the world. Amazing

  • Inspiring Excellence - Ripon

    Published 21/10/22

Coritani Seniors travelled to Ripon to explore the world of Charles Dickens, where learners acted out a court case from the Dicken’s era.  It seems that once you get into character, and our learners did, it is easy to transport a 12 year old child to Australia.

They met the Guardians of the workhouse and experienced being left on the streets to suffer poverty in Victorian Ripon.  They also found out about life in a workhouse.

An inspiring excellence day so learners are ready for Oliver Twist in KS3 and A Christmas Carol as part of their GCSE English Literature.

Coritani learners started the year with a snap crackle and pop as they built fires and enjoyed team building activities at Primrose Hill.  Throughout the day, they worked together respectfully and cook some simple food and prepared hot drinks. They also used the fire to make s’mores at the end of the day.

During the day they were also tasked with putting up hammocks and tents, so they are ready if they need to spend some time outdoors.

A busy week where learners and staff built relationships with each other and enjoyed nature.

Our learners got the chance to use many of the photo-stages to create memorable pictures. They had the opportunity to attend skills sessions and meet the expert workshops to build their skills and knowledge ready for GCSE study or just to improve they own photographs.

The learners spend the day meeting industry organisations, looking at the latest equipment and exploring careers options for the future.
