  • Inspiring Excellence in History

    Published 30/03/23

At the start of our new history topic which focused on the Black Death, we had a visit from a plague doctor! He told us all about his job, trying to save the lives of people who were suffering from the virus and how tough the working living and working conditions were. Living through the dark times was hard work! We asked him lots of questions and learnt lots of new facts.

  • Inspiring Excellence in Lincoln

    Published 29/03/23

To celebrate 'World Book Day' this year, we visited Lincoln Castle and the Magna Carta. Prior to our visit, we read the story of Robin Hood and discussed the role of King John. He wasn't a very good king in the story or in real life, however he did introduced the Magna Carta, which is seen as the basis of many English laws and helped to influence the US constitution.

Everyone had fun and in addition to seeing the Magna Carta, we walked the walls of the castle, visited the Victorian prison and enjoyed watching how fudge is made, as well as sampling a few flavours.

KS2 and Year 10 took part in the intoFILM Festival Spring Festival this term. We received free tickets from intoFILM to go see 'Tad the Lost Explorer and the Curse of the Mummy' at VUE Cinema in Scunthorpe. We watched the film with Subtitles on which studies have shown can help children's development in word reading, processing and pronunciation skills. This also helped our students develop life skills of going to the cinema and social skills that we use in general day to day life. Well done Team Coritani.

All key stage 4 learners enjoyed a visit to Bishop Grossette University where their ambassadors showed Coritani learners the campus and explained campus life to them.  The learners visited lecture theatres, the student union building and the more mundane aspects, the shop and the laundrette before looking at the student accommodation in the hall of residence.  Some of the learners found the closed campus to be a safe place but others commented that they would prefer an open site where they could visit others.

The students all enjoyed the visit, especially The Grand Opera House which was built in 1902.
