  • Inspiring Celebration

    Published 30/06/23

Our annual social trip to mark the changing of the school year was enjoyed by excited learners and staff.  Never before has so few adults been forced on so many rides by young people.  The sun shone but we were all safe with sun lotion and caps.  The water ride was an essential visit for younger people, the adults seemed less keen to be soaked.  A big shout out to the staff whose marathon session on the gut churning Cliffhanger ensured all learners had the chance to ‘enjoy’ it.

Once again everybody embraced this great opportunity for ‘Relationship based education’ and we left with smiles, stories and lotion limited tans.

It was fantastic to see our leavers at the awards lunch at Glanford Park in June.  To be able to celebrate the many successes that we have seen throughout their journey with us at Coritani made it a really special event.  The learners should be so proud of what they have achieved as indeed we are of them.  It was amazing to be joined by families to share this joy and see smiles on their faces. We wish you all the best in the future and know that they now have the foundations to go on and follow their dreams.

  • Respecting Art

Visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site, year 9 and 10 had an Art and Photography filled day this term in Saltaire, Bradford. Learners had the fantastic opportunity to visit one of the largest collections of David Hockney’s art, including ‘A Year in Normandie’, a 90m long frieze that captures the changing seasons over the course of a year. Sitting to sketch at the gallery, we were able to experience art close up, seeing the mark making techniques the artist used to create his digital art works. Along with creating a mini artist transcription in oil pastels, learners recorded some of the mark making that Hockney used. Learners also walked along the river taking photographs with digital cameras, connecting to technical skills. Art and photography created will be used in GCSE projects, so look out for an update of what has been created soon!

Year 6 learners had a treat on the final day of SATS, after a tough week of tests. To celebrate how hard they had worked and how proud Coritani staff are of their resilience and determination, we visited Ashby Bowl. Whilst there it became obvious, that Ben definitely reigned 'King of Alley' and Corgan was hot on his heels. A great competitive game.

We then dashed over to McDonald's for a bite to eat and Luwana was great at volunteering as our very own personal waitress.

Finally, we made our way to Normanby Hall, where we played in the play area and ventured into the woods for hide and seek. Lots of fun was had by everyone and it was a great end to the week.

On Wednesday 17th May, four of our learners represented Coritani in the Humber Quadkids athletics competition. Four events saw our learners (and the staff) jumping with all their might, sprinting across the finish line and throwing howlers to the heavens. Everyone participated in every event and when the going got tough in the 400m race, our team dug deep and never gave up, true resilience in action. Well done to our learners for being ready for the competition, being respectful to those around us, competing safely and  personifying our mindset, we are very proud of your efforts.

  • Ready and Respectful

    Published 23/06/23

As the country prepared to welcome a new King, all at Coritani were ready to celebrate.  During the week we looked at facts about the monarchy and our democracy so the learners knew this was an important event for Great Britain. In a week of showers and storms the sun came out and so did the academy.  Hot Dogs, cakes and trifle were enjoyed as were partied to welcome the new King with flags hung around the playground.  The day ended with a respectful version of the national anthem and three cheers for the new King

After the success of our venture into wheelchair basketball during Empathy Week, it returned by popular demand, so popular the learners were willing to stop after school to get involved. After a series of drills and relays, ball dribbling skills were introduced and then we had some highly competitive games before finishing with a  form of free-throw shootout which saw Jake and Krista awarded with medals.

  • Respectful of the Earth

    Published 23/06/23

To celebrate world Earth day Coritani learners visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park.  We started learning about the planet we live on in the Explorer Dome and had the chance to see the diversity and beauty of animals from all over the planet.  The weather wasn’t kind but it meant all the animals came out, the polar bears swam, the Red pandas nestled in the high trees and the stared, we stared back and had a great and informative time.
