At Coritani Academy, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child and young person deserves to feel safe, valued and supported to become ready to become a responsible, resilient, and Respectful member of their community regardless of their starting point, needs or previous experiences of education. Our ambition is for all learners to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, enabling them to achieve excellent outcomes and move confidently towards their future aspirations.
As a specialist academy serving learners from Years 3 to 13, all of whom have experienced barriers to learning, we recognise that meaningful inclusion begins with relationships. Through our relationship-based, trauma-informed approach, we create environments where learners develop a strong sense of belonging, positive wellbeing and the confidence to engage successfully in learning. We believe that every young person has the potential to succeed when they feel safe, are inspired, and encouraged to take responsibility for their own growth.
Our inclusion strategy is a whole school approach designed to remove barriers to learning and ensure that every learner can access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. We combine high-quality teaching, tailored interventions and personalised pathways to meet individual needs while maintaining high aspirations for all. Academic achievement is a key element of inclusion at Coritani, and we are committed to ensuring that learners, including those with SEND and Education, Health and Care Plans, have every opportunity to achieve meaningful qualifications and successful next steps.
Our approach reflects the seven principles of inclusion by promoting participation, belonging, equity, high expectations, personalised support, collaborative partnerships and continuous improvement. Learners are supported through small class sizes, individualised learning pathways, Thrive-informed practice, targeted literacy and numeracy interventions, and a curriculum that develops both academic knowledge and the personal skills required for life beyond school. The voices of learners are central to decision-making, and individual strengths, interests and aspirations shape planning and provision.
Families are essential partners in our inclusive approach. We work closely with parents and carers through review meetings, regular communication and collaborative target setting to ensure every learner receives coordinated support. We also engage with external professionals, community partners and the wider Isle Education Trust to secure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
Our inclusive culture is underpinned by the Coritani Mindset and our commitment to helping learners become Safe, Ready and Respectful members of society. Through our Personal Development Curriculum, Rights Respecting values, Preparing for Adulthood framework and focus on emotional wellbeing, we enable learners to develop. resilience in the face of challenges, self-discipline in learning, respect for others, and the courage to persevere when circumstances are difficult through a daring to be excellent attitude
Ultimately, our aim is that every learner leaves Coritani Academy with the confidence and strength of character to navigate challenges, contribute positively to society, and flourish both in education and in life.
